Sherwood Exhibit Rules

Sherwood Exhibit Rules containing all the requirements to exhibit in our Stacy. C. Sherwood Rotary Gallery. Read these Exhibit Rules before submitting your work for the Sherwood Exhibits.

HANGING
FEES AND COMMISSIONS

  • Hanging fees will be $8.00 for Artists Coalition of Fairfax members and $10.00 for non-members
  • There is an additional $10.00 contribution for the Reception expenses.
  • The City of Fairfax will collect 30% commission on any sales

ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY GUIDELINES

  • This exhibit will consist of a maximum of 70 pieces of original artwork. You are invited to submit up to 4 art pieces. It should be noted that that the maximum amount of 70 will dictate how many art pieces we will accept per submission. Once the maximum of 70 is reached further reception will be closed.
  • Artwork including size of frame must be a minimum of 16″x20”  with preference to larger artwork. Some exceptions to size could be considered.
  • Watercolors must be suitable framed.
  • Artwork on canvas must be framed or gallery wrapped with edges painted with a continuation of the theme colors or black.
  • All artwork submissions must have proper hanging wires on the back. No other hanging method will be accepted.
  • Only art that will safely hang on a wall with wires installed in back will be acceptable.
  • The artist Coalition of Fairfax will provide the Art Title & Price labels that will be attached to the bottom of each artwork.
  • All artwork presented must include Title, Medium, Size, Name of Author, and Price

ORIGINAL ARTWORK 

Original artwork includes drawings, lithographs, serigraphs, digital art, photographs or sculptures to hang on a wall.

  • Limited edition digital art and photographs will be acceptable as original art. 
  • We will accept all original artwork approved by the City of Fairfax’s Recreation Manager, the Artists Coalition of Fairfax, and the Sherwood Center.

The sales and commissions will be handled by the City Of Fairfax. The City of Fairfax will charge a 30% sales commission. If any of your artwork is sold, you will need to be ready to quickly replace that artwork within 24 to 48 hours with another piece.  All artwork submissions must be available for sale. Artwork must be available to hang during the entire duration of this show and no artwork can be taken down unless sold at the venue. Artists will be responsible to pay any applicable taxes on art sales.

RESTRICTIONS

 Please note that According to the Fairfax City Government rules regarding the separation of Religion and Government, any piece of art that includes religious symbols, images, or manifestations will not be accepted. The venue hosts periodic children shows and activities, therefore artworks with artistic nudes can not be accepted. It should be further noted that the City of Fairfax has the right to refuse ANY art work deemed for any reason unacceptable for hanging. Refusal is in no way a judgment on the quality or principles of the art work.

CITY OF FAIRFAX AGREEMENT

Although the best care is provided to art pieces at the exhibit, all artists must sign a City Of Fairfax Art Agreement releasing the City of any responsibility regarding any loss, theft or damage to artwork on display for this art show.

COALITION OF FAIRFAX AGREEMENT

By signing the Exhibit application all artists agree to release the Artist Coalition of Fairfax of any responsibility regarding any loss, theft or damage to artwork on display for this art show.

SHERWOOD GALLERY GUIDELINES

To ensure all the requirements of the City Manager, City Council and everyone involved are met, Ms. Katie MacCammon City of Fairfax Recreation Manger will act as the final authority approving all artwork proposed for hanging in the Sherwood Center, while she also will have veto power to reject anything she does not deem appropriate.

  SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES

The City of Fairfax and the Artists Coalition of Fairfax will use reasonable care in handling and displaying artwork. They will not be responsible for any loss, theft or damage to artwork on display for this art show.
